Fellow SC League Members,
With another wild season in the books, and as your 2024 Fantasy Football Champion, I wanted to take a moment to share my thanks and gratitude for another exciting season of fantasy football. This season really started off like no other, with Kaiser making a surprise appearance at Eddy Elementary for draft night. We should have all known then that it was going to be a special season; and it was. It was one filled with nail-biting matchups, waiver wire heartbreaks, the always lurking stat corrections, and the defeats at the feet of kickers who happen to go off for six field goals in a game, with at least 4 of them being 50-yards or more. And of course, the two final championship matches not being determined in the 2nd half of the Monday Night Football game. Congrats to you Burrito Warrior, on your 2nd place finish. You were truly an admirable opponent.
Regardless of how your team finished, you all have so much to be proud of, because it is not about your record, the highs, the lows, the kings, the dumps, or the payouts, it is walking away from this season knowing that you have grown as a manager and knowing that you are better now, than when the season started. Without hesitation, I can confidently say that all of you are better now for having the opportunity to play and compete against a diamond-level manager. For me, it was never about the virtual trophies, the payouts, or the actual trophy, it was always about providing you with an opportunity to beat the best. Our league is a better league with a diamond level manager in it and you are all better managers because of it as well. Yes, it may not seem fair; this is only a silver league, and some of you may be asking yourselves “Why is there even a diamond level manager in this league?” My answer to that is it’s my gift to you, to all of you. You see greatness isn’t given; it is earned. As friends, as people I have a great deal of respect and admiration for, there is no better gift that I can give to you than to provide you with the opportunity to play fantasy football with someone that is operating at the highest of levels. You can all feel better knowing that you didn’t lose to a bronze or silver level champion, but a diamond level champion. Your colleagues, spouse, significant other, kids, nieces, nephews, and just general people in line at the local grocery market, will be so impressed to hear that you made a run at greatness and came close to taking on a Diamond Level player… some much closer than others.
What truly made this a remarkable season, and essentially gave it the diamond touch for me was that in “Reality Football,” our Detroit Lions are kicking so much ass and have created so much buzz all the while making multiple superstars for fantasy football purposes. Gone are the days when we are all fighting for the one and only playable option on the team. It is just amazing to see the impact that a winning football team can have on a community. This upcoming Sunday’s Lions vs Vikings matchup for the top seed and the NFC North Title is going to be one for the ages, and I am so excited to have Motor City Dan Campbell and his giant balls leading the charge on our sidelines.
As now a 5-time champion and member of the Diamond Level Club. I can’t wait to see what sort of things Yahoo has in store for me. Thanks for making this league as fun and competitive as ever. Rest up, start your research early (I recommend just focusing on next June’s edition of Fantasy Football Magazine) and we will see you all next season for another shot at glory and greatness.
