Before we kick into full gear for Week 5, I thought we’d update the coaching numbers so far. Week 4 tied Week 2 as the sloppiest so far with 20 total fuckups for the period. We also so two more “Coaching Losses” which is a testament to just how close a lot of the games have been thus far. Through 4 games, we have 8 coaching losses already, which puts us on pace to crush last years percentage.
| Coaching Losses | |||
| Year | Losses | Weeks | % |
| 2019 | 10 | 13 | 12.82% |
| 2020 | 4 | 13 | 5.13% |
| 2021 | 12 | 14 | 14.29% |
| 2022 | 15 | 14 | 17.86% |
| 2023 | 17 | 14 | 20.24% |
| 2024 | 8 | 4 | 33.33% |
These numbers usually get less likely as the year goes on and BYEs and injuries shorten the benches.
As for the total number of missteps to date, Trigger is really taking advantage of a week bench here;
| Rank | Prev | Coach | Loss | 50-99 | 100-199 | 200-299 | 300+ | Total | Points |
| 1 | 1 | Trigger | 1 | 1 | 2 | 3 | |||
| 2 | 3 | Kaiser | 2 | 2 | 1 | 5 | 9 | ||
| 3 | 2 | Kyle | 4 | 3 | 7 | 10 | |||
| 4 | 3 | Chris | 5 | 3 | 8 | 11 | |||
| 4 | 7 | Josh | 3 | 4 | 7 | 11 | |||
| 6 | 3 | Jones | 3 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 7 | 14 | |
| 7 | 9 | Ryan | 1 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 21 | ||
| 8 | 7 | Matt | 1 | 5 | 3 | 8 | 24 | ||
| 9 | 3 | Jim | 1 | 4 | 4 | 8 | 25 | ||
| 10 | 10 | Kronner | 1 | 1 | 5 | 1 | 7 | 27 | |
| 11 | 11 | Cork | 2 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 7 | 40 | |
| 12 | 11 | Dave | 2 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 8 | 41 |
Refresher on Coaching Score;
- 50-99 Points higher than starter is 1 point here.
- 99-199 Points higher than starter is 2 points here.
- 200-299 Points higher than starter is 3 points here.
- 300+ Points higher than starter is 4 points here.
- A total teams loss that could have been saved by a single lineup decision is 13 points here.
This system have been in place for years now, but I’ve been thinking 13 might be too punitive, I’d be open to changing it if someone has a better suggestion. It was originally based on the 13 game regular season.
So as for now, we see the Tin Men at the bottom, along with Air Bud, largely because of some close losses that could have been salvaged. Dave, Chris, Matt and Jim are all tied with 8 total missteps thus far, but only Dave, Jon and Ryan have had one as bad as 300+. Thus far, 4 of Kronner’s 7 missteps have been at the QB spot, where the MacGruber Themed squad have chosen the wrong field general every week thus far. And if the “expert consensus” is right, he’s about to make it 5 in a row by benching Kyler.
Credit to the Skippers who, aside from their Dump performance, have managed to weather most of their high-profile coaching blunders thus far. And our first place Sentinels have 7 errors to date, but none have proven too costly.
