Checking in on the the Playoffs

So as Championship Week officially started last night, it would seem a disservice to both Trigger and Kyle to not at least mention it. So there, I mentioned it. Please excuse my bitterness, I’m still mad at the Mallrats, my Coach and the Stat Correction Gods – if not for my 14-point Stat Correction loss to Josh back in W6, I’d have been the #2 seed and I would have beaten Kyle by about 600 points last week and I’d be playing Trigs right now. But really, it’s fine, we’re all fine here, how are you?

As it turned out, the BYE weeks went to Josh and Dave, and we all know how that worked out, since they are now playing for Bronze, some championship points, and the return of their entry fee (plus $5). Round One, while Josh and Dave were asleep, the Mallrats and CTan both got toasted and then played a mostly meaningless game last week that saw Kronner finish 5th place, and Chris 6th.

In the Toilet Bowl, it’s down to Matt and Mark, but since Mark was the only one not to pony up for the consolation bracket, the cash prize has already gone to SECOND DECK, so I’m not gonna waste time previewing that game – though if Mark wins, it will be hilarious and I might revisit it.

#5 Flying Dutchmen vs. #6 The Tim Brady’s

This game opened up with Kyle as a projected 80-point favorite, and after TNF, where Njoku, despite losing a fumble, outscored his projection by 60 points and drew the matchup closer. Still, we can see what Yahoo thinks of these teams, as neither is projected to break 1800.

Each of these managers has one title on their record to date, though if Kyle wins his 2nd in just Year 7, and Trigs is stuck on one after nearly a quarter-century of playing could be considered… embarrassing?

Even with this hair, I might outscore Kelce.

This is the first ever post-season matchup between these two, though overall the H2H record favors Trigger. Kyle took the first 3 matchups, before the Dutchmen went on a 6-game run, which The Tim Bradys broke earlier this year.

Regular Season; Trigger leads series 6-4 all time
Post-Season; N/A

Players to Watch; We get a Justin Jefferson vs Ja’marr Chase matchup, which you would think would have played a bigger part in getting these guys to where they are, but injuries to both these receivers, and their QBs have taken a lot of wind out of their sails.

For the Dutch, it’s likely gonna to come down to what Lamar Jackson and Zay Flowers can do against Miami, which has potential to be a shootout, while the Brady Bunch is relying on Packers QB Jordan Love to put up a bunch of points while ignoring Aaron Jones entirely.

The most important position this week though might be the beloved Kicker spot, with Nick Folk acting as the leg of the Bradys, and Trigger rolling with Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders. Over the last 7 weeks, Nick Folk, who historically is a very good kicker, has averaged just 90 ppg, while Sanders is putting up 205 ppg in the same span.

#1 Sentinels vs. #2 Disaster Transport

For the Bronze, this season’s two best teams totally collapsed during their BYE weeks and got trounced in the semi-finals, each losing by more than 500 points to the bottom seeds. Now, with $105 on the line, they are projected to slap it out, with Yahoo giving Josh the estimated edge at a pathetic 1620 points.

Regular Season; Josh leads series 7-5 all-time.
Post-Season; Dave leads the series 1-0 (2013)

In what seems like a real anomaly, during Josh’s entire time in the league (2006-2014, 2021-Now), Josh and Dave have played each other in the regular season exactly once per year, each of those years. That might not sound unusual, but back in the division days, some teams would go multiple years without playing each other, and every team get at least three re-matches per season, so it is actually a little strange…

Players to Watch; Who gives a fuck.
