Earlier this month, I did a post about possible changes for next year, and included at the bottom was a poll asking people to let us know where their mind was at. Now, before everyone totally checks out, I thought it would be a good time to go back to it so we can prep for any changes.
Below there are breakdowns of proposals, PLEASE VOTE ON EACH ONE. Additionally, at the bottom, I’ve added another poll where you can propose other ideas as well.
THE MONEY
PROP #1 – THE ENTRY FEE – Through the history of the SCL we’ve gone from $0 to $5 to $10 to $50 and eventually $100. Kyle has proposed we bump it again, this time to $150. I don’t like messing with people’s wallets, so while I’m in favor of raising it, I’d really like this to get unanimous support on this one before we change anything.
PROP #2 – THE PAYOUTS – Now the actual numbers of the payouts can’t be determined til we know what how the Entry Fee pans out. Should it go up, it opens up our options. But for now, let’s just vote based on the $1200 pot.
As it stands now; Gold – $700, Silver – $200, Bronze – $100, Reg. Season/Offense/Coach/Draft/Rivalry – $40 each. Also a $120 side pot for the Toilet Bowl.
In previous years, we also had payouts for King of the Week and some other stuff. Personally, I’d like to dump the Rivalry payout, and instead, incentivize those games the way Steve and Chris have. This obviously requires each set of rivals – which can also be refigured – to agree on something more fun.
Based on the $100 buy-in I think we should adjust it in the following way; Eliminate or change how we do Best Draft, eliminate payout for Rivalry Champ and payout like this;
Gold – $750 / Silver – $250 / $50 Each for Reg. Season, Coach, Offense and Bronze game.
Or maybe people want to eliminate the Coach award – or add something else in. I’m open to suggestions. And of course, if we raise the entry fee, then this will all be reopened obviously.
THE DRAFT
PROP #3 – RETURN TO SNAKE – There has been interest expressed (2 votes) in reverting back to a Snake draft. I did not expect this to be the case, but there is no reason we can’t put it to a vote.
ROSTERS
PROP #4 – TEAM D vs IDP – This is where there have been the most divisive arguments made. Do we dump a 23-year tradition and move to the more widely used Team Defense option. Everyone knows my thinking on this; IDP makes the NFL more fun to watch, it’s less matchup-dependant than Team D, and it differentiates our league from the standard ones. This switch will change things up quite a bit should we do it. Based on our other scoring, how do we balance the Team D importance with offense? And if we keep IDP, do we also keep the new scoring? I for one am actually in favor of a slight tweak to it – I’d like to see Assisted Tackles jump from 5 up to 7.5 points.
There would be a lot to work out, but let’s just start with the decision…
PROP #5 – FLEX SPOT – This year we added a WR/RB/TE Flex spot on a trial basis, so now we have to decide if we want to stick with that, change it or go back to the old style. Kyle (again with this guy?) also suggested a Super Flex, which I think is a horrible idea with our scoring system, but I would be in favor of dumping TE to add a 2nd traditional Flex.
SCORING
PROP #6 – RETURN YARDAGE – So this isn’t really adding in something new as much as bringing back something old. We counted the stat from 2003-2004 and again from 2011-2014. Now the kick return game was a much bigger part of the NFL back then, but this COULD also be applied to INT and FUM return yards, in which case we could weigh those things like we do with FGs. Scoring would be worked out based on outcome of vote.
TRANSACTIONS
PROP #7 – THE FAB – This system is growing in popularity, and most likely to affect teams like the Skippers and Mallrats who usually lead the league in transactions. It would change our usual waiver system and make it into more of a silent-auction-style pickup. You can still bid zero (you’ll have a FAB budget for the year) and win, but if you add a couple bucks to it, you have a chance to beat out someone with a higher waiver priority.
PROP #8 – WEDNESDAY WAIVERS – I actually like doing this on Tuesday night, but there is an argument to be made that Waivers shouldn’t process until Thursday morning, after the Wed. Injury Reports are out.
THE REST OF IT
There was very little interest in these ones previously, but if someone want to put them up for a vote, just say so;
- The Final Playoff Spot goes to the Highest Scoring Team outside the Top 5
- The Final Playoff Spot goes to the Highest Scoring of the Year if they are not already in, otherwise, it stays record-based.
- A New Scheduling Formula (you would need to suggest something)
- Ideas for RIvalry Week and Matchups
