Potential Changes for 2023

Here we are again, changing rules as often as the XFL changes bankruptcy claims. We may very well leave things as they are, but there’s been a lot of talk about changing things up a bit. With so much chatter, I thought we might want to get a preliminary idea of where people are on the proposals while the season is still fresh in mind.

THE TIMMO SPECIAL

Proposal; Elimination of IDP in favor of Team Defense

Pretty easy here – should we ditch the IDP system in favor of Team Defense. Or, should we eliminate Defense altogether? This would be a radical change, which would affect the entire makeup of the league, but it could be done if that’s what people want. Roster size would obviously shrink, and competition for skill players would become even more stretched.

THE JONES APPEASEMENT

Proposal; Keep IDP, and revert back to the previous scoring system.

So this is far less drastic – we keep the roster makeup as is, but we got back to a most tackle-heavy scoring makeup. Or, if we don’t go back totally, perhaps we tweak things again. I was thinking of maybe bumping Assisted Tackles from 5 to 8 points as a start…

THE FAB (FREE AGENT BUDGET)

Proposal; Rather than a rolling waiver list ranked by record, we bid on waiver claims

So the way this would work, just like with the draft, you have a budget for the year you can use for transactions. If 5 GMs put in a claim on a player, he goes to the highest bidder – if you don’t think anyone else will put in a claim, you can bid 0 and still get him. This system just makes sense with the way we draft now.

THE WEDNESDAY WAIVER

Proposal; Moving the waiver night to Wednesday

I don’t really love this, but it does make sense. But putting in claims on Wednesday night rather than Tuesday, you have more info regarding injuries for the week.

THE RETURN RULE

Proposal; Adding in Return Yardage

I’ve been ringing the bell on this hill for years. I think players that return kicks or punts should be rewarded for the risk. Additionally, this adds a wrinkle if we keep IDP. We can also award yardage on INT and Fumble returns to bolster defenders.

THE CASH

Proposal; A total overhaul, or minor tweaking to the payout structure and buy-in

Kyle suggested raising the buy-in to $150 – I think I know a couple guys who will vote against this, though I’d be fine with it. That said, changing the buy-in would need to be unanimous. Should be do it, we have more flexibility on payouts, bigger reward for the champ and maybe some fun new ways to reward people. Regardless if we change the buy-in or not, the payout probably need to be reworked.

THE ROSTER MAKEUP

Proposal; Keep it as is or tweak it? Kickers, Flex, 3rd WR, IDP, Super Flex, etc…

This is sort of tied to the IDP debate, but there are plenty of options available to us.  2 QBs, no Kicker, and a RB/WR/TE/K Flex. We could even add the WR3 slot back in if we wanted.

THE JONES RULE

Proposal; Reserving the 6th Playoff spot for the team with the most points outside of the Top 5

I don’t like this rule, but I thought I’d throw it out anyway.

THE DRAFT

Proposal; Keep the Auction or go back to Snake

Kyle seems interested in going back to a snake draft. I think he’d in the minority, but again, it can be put to a vote.

THE SCHEDULE

Proposal; How should Rivals be determined, is there a better way to set the schedule

If anyone has a better way to determine to schedule, I’m open to suggestions. Also, for Rivals, we could nominate matchups or find another way to set those.

So, just to get a baseline of what kind of things we should further research, I’d ask that everyone vote below; select every option you’d like to see further dissected and put to a vote.
