A History of 4-0 Starts

Much to the disappointment of all, the Red Bank Mallrats miracle run ended this week, and the Dutchmen claimed victory. With this game, Trigger moves to 4-0 on the season, the only remaining undefeated team.

Last week, we looked at all the 3-0 teams going back to 2001, 31 teams hit that mark. Let us now take a look at how the 2022 Dutch match up with all the other squads to start 4-0…

RANK YEAR MANAGER ORG. SCORE ADJ. SCORE
1 2020 Chris 10680 10680.00
2 2011 Kronner 10947 9917.98
3 2015 Jason 9612 9612.00
4 2003 Jones 6958 9532.46
5 2004 Trigger 6793 9306.41
6 2016 Steve 9133 9133.00
7 2018 Matt 9105 9105.00
8 2021 Kaiser 8952 8952.00
9 2012 Kronner 9507 8946.09
10 2014 Chris 9668 8894.56
11 2002 Matt 6484 8883.08
12 2017 John 8803 8803.00
13 2007 Timmy 7461 8729.37
14 2019 Matt 8667 8667.00
15 2015 Chris 8609 8609.00
16 2003 Chris 6236 8543.32
17 2009 Ryan 7107 8315.19
18 2022 Trigger 8123 8123.00
19 2017 Steve 7827 7827.00
20 2019 Jones 7371 7371.00

The first thing we notice here, our number plummets from 31 down to 20, which makes sense. Certainly harder to win 4 in a row than 3.

Other notes…

  • Both Jason and Sanchez make this list in their very first season.
  • With the current Mallrats team eliminated, that makes the 2019 Skippers squad the weakest 4-0 start we’ve had.
  • Chris holds the record for most 3-0 starts (7), so it makes sense he also has the most 4-0 starts (4) as well.
  • Kaiser leads Kronner for 8th place by fewer than 3 points in the adjusted score.

Should Trigger win again, we’ll see how many of these teams were able to get to 5-0…
