Much to the disappointment of Trigger and Marcus, the draft will be held in two weeks, Wednesday, August 31st, starting at 8:30 pm. Trigs will have to draft on the run from his phone while on a business trip, and Kaiser will just have to, I don’t know, find something else to complain about?
This year’s rivalry matchups (weeks 3 and 10) will look like this;

This year’s matchups feature some old feuds, as well as some manufactured new ones! Matt leads Kyle in a close series, with a 5-4 record in nine head-to-head matchups, however the Tim Bradys have ended SECOND DECK’s season twice – knocking Alley out in each of their playoff matchups (2017 & 2018). Some of the other matchups are more obvious (Dave v. Kronner, Jones v. Trigger) and could have been set when Scott Mitchell was still slinging balls in Miami. The Kreger brothers are a lazy an obvious an inspired choice of violent brotherly warfare (someone wake up Ryan).
Kaiser and McLeod are, on the surface, natural opposites (despite their love for Canadian pastimes), but underneath are sneakily alike. Outwardly, Mark has his blunt, intentionally insulting approach to human interaction, while Timmo’s obsequious need to play peacemaker seems to put them at odds, but deep down, Captain Texas and the Swarthy Scott are both contrarians at heart.
Truly the focus though, the real PRIZE of the Rivalry Matches – is the Commish vs. the World Quasar in this year’s updated Thor-themed contest; THE LOVE AND THUNDER BOWL!

The winner of the Thor-Showdown will receive, from his opponent, some shitty Thor movie on some outdated piece of physical media. I’m really rooting for a VHS transfer of some sort.
Additionally, the annual $25 Rivalry Champ payout will be determined slightly differently this year as it’ll be a rematch in Week 10. Rather than the most lopsided victory, it will go by record, followed by total point differential. So, any teams that go 2-0 in those weeks are in the running. Of those teams, the Manager with the best combined +/- from the two games will be our winner.
Speaking of money, feel free to start sending it to me. Let’s try to get it all in before Draft Day, please.
