An Updated Look at the Playoff Picture

Wow, Week 13 introduced some chaos to the system and was the most competitive week we’ve had this year. Let’s recap.

Ryan, buried in the 12 spot, upsets year-long #1 seed Kaiser. And while this game didn’t affect the playoff seeds, it set a tone for the week. #2 seed Josh finishes in a TIE – the first we’ve had since 2006 – with Trigger, which not only drops Josh out a First Round Bye (for now) but also eliminates the Dutchmen from the postseason. The reigning champ Tim Bradys were also eliminated from contention by Jones, who jumps up to 2nd place and currently has himself a playoff Bye. C-Tan put up the Dump of the Week and lost, and still all but locked up a playoff spot thanks to his season point total. Additionally, Tan’s dump keeps Dave alive, amazingly.

The two games that have caused the most potential for unseating are the wins by Tim and Steve. The obvious one, Timmo missing King of the Week by 13 points, put a whopping on Kronner which opens up that #6 seed with a bunch of 6-7 teams. And with Sanchez beating Matt, given his lower point total, should Matt lose again this week, he’ll fall into what is likely to be a logjam at 7-7.

So who wants what for Week 14?

Kaiser v. C Tan vs. The World

Dude is on a BYE week.

Just like last week, Kaiser’s #1 seed cannot be touched, so his only motivation here is to try and screw Tansuche out of the postseason. For most people that wouldn’t be much, but seeing as Kaiser is the resident King of Spite, and given his contentious relationship historically with the commish – don’t be surprised if he tries a little harder this week. Chris, thanks to his point total is likely still in even with a loss, BUT if he has another Dump of the Week situation, some chaos could ensue as we are likely to have several 7-7 teams win the dust settles. Chris also has an outside chance at a BYE with a big win, and some bad games from Josh and Jon.

Rooting For Kaiser: Jones, Josh, Matt, Kronner, Steve, Timmy, Dave
Rooting for Chris: Kyle?

Sc4_Skippers vs TIMMO

Jones will look to lock up that First Round BYE against McLeod, who is vying for his first return to the postseason since 2013. Jone and Tim were the highest scoring teams of Week 13, and are primed for a big showdown using all the WRs that Kronner stupidly traded away to begin his recent slide. Current projections give Jones the edge, but the early projections have against Tim each of the last two weeks as well, yet still he the hottest team in the league having won three in a row.

Rooting For Jones: Kronner, Steve, Dave
Rooting for Timmo: Josh, Chris, Matt

Washington Sentinels vs Mexico City Quasars

Let me lead your team to the playoffs.

Josh is coming off of just the third tie in league history (with Trigger and Kronner somehow having done it twice each now), which might have just cost him the chance at a Bye Week. Sanchez is looking to stay alive coming off back-to-back impressive victories over playoff teams. Prior to the Week 13 tie, Josh had won 3 of his last 4 and was positioning himself nicely in the seeding bracket. Steve will be without 2 of his most consistent players – Waddle and Logan Wilson (also both foolishly traded away by Kronner) and will see how far Tysom Hill can ride the season-long QB Carosaul that is the Quasar roster. Meanwhile, Josh will continue to weather the injury storm with hopes that Kamara can come back. Steve is fighting for his playoff life, Josh for a week to get healthy.

Rooting For Josh: Kronner, Timmo, Dave
Rooting for Steve: Jones, Chris, Matt

SECOND DECK vs The Tim Bradys

Matt controls his own fate here. After riding high in 2nd place for most of the year, he’s now lost three in a row ahead of his matchup with Kyle. The Tim Bradys are out of contention already, but they have a chance to end Matt’s season here. For that to happen, Kyle will likely need to make some moves with 3 empty spots in his lineup, but this game could have a major playoff impact if SECOND DECK were to lose for the 4th week in a row.

Rooting For Matt: Ryan, and maybe Kaiser?
Rooting for Kyle: Josh, Chris, Kronner, Tim, Steve, Dave

Red Bank Mallrats vs. Burrito Warrior Revival

After some key injuries and poor decisions at the trade deadline, Kronner’s team has been floundering. A win last week likely would have secured a playoff spot, but instead, the Mallrats came out flat and got their doors blown off by Timmo in a lopsided matchup. Following back-to-back wins over Josh and Jones, Kronner has now lost 3 of 4, and is likely in a pick’em match this week against Ryan. The Burrito Warrior has had an up and down season. Despite his current 12th place rank, he’s outscored 5 of the teams ahead of him, and is right in the middle of the pack for points against. He’s never landed on the Dump of the Week list, and he’s actually won two ‘Biggest Domination’ distinctions. In other words, he’s got a real good shot at ending Kronner’s season and pulling himself out of 12th place.

Rooting For Kronner: *crickets*
Rooting for Ryan: Chris, Matt, Timmy, Steve, Dave

The BF3000s vs The Flying Dutchmen

What a world. I can’t feel too bad for Trigger, because he ran back to CMac faster than a white girl with a black eye in an Alabama trailer park, but the numbers here have got to be painful for the Dutchmen to see. Trigger has scored 2420 points more than Dave thus far, despite a plethora of high-profile injuries. And his schedule has put him in the line of fire for 2153 more points against than Dave, yet with a record of 5-7-1, Trigger has been eliminated from contention, while Dave, winner of a record (probably?) 6 Dumps in the last 11 weeks sits on the edge of a playoff spot with a glimmer of hope still there. Oof. A loss to Dave (coupled with a Kronner loss) could drop The Dutchmen down to 12th place for the 3rd time since 2017. With a win, Dave keeps his chances alive, but needs some Ls from Steve, Tim and Kronner to get in.

Rooting For Dave: Probably Josh, Jones, Kaiser and Chris – cause it’d be funny. And Ryan.
Rooting for Trigger: Kronner, Steve and Timmy.

So, it’s come down to the very last week, with six teams fighting it out for three playoff spots. It’s gonna be a stressful weekend…
