2021 Kicker stuffs!

After Sanchez dropped a season-high 343 points in the kicker slot on Thanksgiving, it was understandable that Jones would be disheartened.

But how close is Jon’s assumption? Is he the worst kicker coach in the league? Or was this a turkey-fueled, knee-jerk pity party? Let’s take a look at the numbers!

Here is Kicker Scoring by week this season…

Ok, so here’s another one of Kronner’s 100,000 charts – but what does it tell us?

Ranking – Per Game Average

  1. Josh – 156.2
  2. Timmo – 149.5
  3. Trigger – 146.3
  4. Chris – 143.4
  5. Kyle – 141.5
  6. Kronner – 138.5
  7. Matt – 128.9
  8. Ryan – 124.6
  9. Kaiser – 110.4
  10. Steve – 107.3
  11. Jones – 96.1
  12. Dave – 89.8

So on the surface, Jones was pretty close, with the 2nd worst average, ahead of only Buttfucking Dave. But like Jon used to teach (probably), when figuring averages, sometimes it helps to eliminate outliers to get a truer look at reality. So this next chart, we delete each team’s best and worst day. ie: Dave’s -5 game from Crosby, and the crazy 343 Steve just dropped on Jon’s head.

Ranking – Per Game Average (Amended)

  1. Josh – 156.8 (+0.2)
  2. Chris – 149.8 (+6.4)
  3. Trigger – 148.6 (+2.3)
  4. Kyle – 146.0 (+4.5)
  5. Timmo – 143.3 (-6.2)
  6. Kronner – 138.6 (+0.1)
  7. Matt – 130.4 (+1.5)
  8. Ryan – 123.3 (-1.3)
  9. Kaiser – 104.0 (-6.4)
  10. Jones – 95.1 (-1.0)
  11. Steve – 93.4 (-13.9)
  12. Dave – 87.3 (-2.5)

So what did we see here? Josh and Kronner’s averages barely moved, which would seem to indicate the most consistency for those teams. The biggest drops come from Sanchez, Kaiser and McLeod. Timmy drops from 2nd to 5th, Kaiser doesn’t change position, but Sanchez actually drops below Jones. After eliminating Dave’s scores, his average went down 2.5 points, which means his week one 207 performance was farther off his true average than his -5 performance was.

“But Kronner, I still feel inferior in terms of kicking prowess”

Alright Jon, let’s take a look further then. Here are the kicker totals against the Sc4_Skippers this year.

Week 1 – 88
Week 2 – 50
Week 3 – 312
Week 4 – 83
Week 5 – 225
Week 6 – 107
Week 7 – 84
Week 8 – 30
Week 9 – 101
Week 10 – 123
Week 11 – 0
Week 12 – 343

TOTAL – 1546
AVERAGE – 128.8

Here we see Jon has faced an average opposing kicker score of 128.8, which is below league scoring average. When we look at the numbers though, we see how clearly erratic they are.

If we take out weeks 3, 5, and 12 that opposing average drops to 74 points. Now Jon lost in both Week 3 and Week 5 with the opposing kicker going off. For the current week, with Steve’s best kicker output of any team this year, the outcome is far too early to call.

In Jon’s other 9 games, he has faced arguably the easiest kicker schedule of any team. So with a few exceptions, it seems we usually play down to Jon’s level. In those games, Jon actually averages 84.8, which is 10.8 points better than his opponents.

” I don’t understand these numbers at all. How was I a math teacher?”

So based on average, in a matchup of only Kickers, Jon would be 9-3 right now despite how terrible his kickers have been. But averages aren’t always super accurate. And in reality, his record based on kickers for the year is 4-7-1.

That’s as far as I’m willing to go on Kicker research.
