The Playoff Picture UPDATED

UPDATE – Some sort of stat correction seems to have taken place, though it’s not yet listed. Now, the regular-season standings will end as such;

  1. Sc4_Skippers (9-4)
  2. The Quasars (8-5)
  3. Red Bank Mallrats (8-5)
  4. QAnon (8-5)
  5. The Tim Brady’s (7-6)
  6. BE A MAN HOGAN (7-6)
  7. SECOND DECK (7-6)
  8. C Tan vs the World (6-7)
  9. Flying Dutchmen (6-7)
  10. TIMMO! (6-7)
  11. Nacho Team (5-8)
  12. Murphy Inn-ies (1-12)

This will result in another Regular Season Title for the Skippers (their fifth; ’03, ’06 ’10, ’19, ’20), which will come with a first-round BYE. Also getting a BYE is The Quasars, who’s monster Week 12 game pushes them past the Mallrats for 2nd. QAnon will grab the #4 spot, and BE A MAN HOGAN secured a post-season spot with his narrow victory over Nacho Team.

Matchups for Week 14 see The Mallrats taking on BE A MAN HOGAN, as The Tim Bradys will see last year’s champ QAnon.

3. RED BANK MALLRATS vs. 6. BE A MAN HOGAN

In a rematch of the 2017 title game that saw John grab the hardware, Kronner will look for some post-season revenge.

This matchup (at time of typing) features not one, but four players on the HOGAN squad that were cut earlier this year by the Mallrats and could come back to haunt them; Chase Young, JK Dobbins, Wayne Gallman and Ben Roethlisberger. On the flip side, the Mallrats have rostered two ex-HOGANs in Hollywood Brown and Deandre Swift, but their statuses for Week 14 are in doubt.

In their one meeting this season, The Mallrats bested HOGAN 2549.00 – 2047.00 in Week 7. It was Kronner’s second-best offense output of the year, with 537 from Kyler, and all three of his wideouts with 200+ points.

The Winner of this match will face #2 seed The Quasars. Steve is 2-0 against Kronner this season, with the Mallrats failing to break 1900 in either game. In the only matchup between the Sanchez brothers, Steve won a low-scoring outing 1723-1496. Whoever advances, it will be a Rivalry Week rematch for Steve.

4. QAnon vs. 5. The Tim Bradys

The reigning champ has had to overcome some major injuries this season, but they’re starting to look a little healthier with both starting RBs back in Sanders and Cook. On the other side, The Tim Bradys will be relying on Derick Henry to demolish the Jags and one of his aging QBs to look young.

The current (Wednesday Evening) lineup projections separate these teams by a mere 30 points (though this is sure to change), at this point, it seems like a true toss-up.

Let’s take a look at the all-time playoff records of the remaining teams.

MANAGER GAMES WINS LOSSES W%
Kyle Serruys 5 3 2 0.600
John Sanchez 5 3 2 0.600
Mark Kaiser 19 11 8 0.579
Brian Kronner 23 13 10 0.565
Jon Jones 29 15 14 0.517
Stephen Sanchez 4 2 2 0.500
  • Though only in the league since 2017, Kyle has already had post-season matches with four of the remaining teams, Kronner being the lone outlier.
  • For Kronner to make it to the title game, he’ll need to do something he failed to accomplish in 2017 – defeat both Sanchez Brothers in back to back games.
  • If Kaiser and Kronner were both to win their first two games, we would for the first time ever, have a rematch of the previous year’s title game.
  • Win or Lose, next week, Jones will pass CTan in Playoff Games, for which they are currently tied for 2nd at 29. Matt Alley holds the record with 35.

FIRST-ROUND BYES

This is only the sixth year that we’ve offered Byes to the top two teams. I thought it would be interesting to see how those have worked thus far;

MANAGER PLAYOFFS SINCE 2015 PLAYOFF PERCENTAGE BYES TITLES TITLE w/BYE Week
Stephen 4 80.00% 3 1 1
Jones 4 66.67% 2 1 0
Dave 2 33.33% 2 1 1
Matt 4 66.67% 2 0 0
John 4 80.00% 1 1 1
Jason 3 50.00% 1 0 0
Kyle 3 75.00% 0 0 0
Kaiser 3 50.00% 0 1 0
Kronner 4 66.67% 0 0 0
Byrd 1 100.00% 0 0 0
Trigger 2 33.33% 0 0 0
Timmy 0 0.00% 0 0 0
Chris 2 33.33% 0 0 0
  • Jones snags a first-round BYE for the second year in a row, but surprisingly, he didn’t have any prior to 2019.
  • Sanchez leads all managers with 3 BYES, despite this being only his fifth year in the league. Bastard.
  • Dave received a BYE each of the first two seasons it was available but hasn’t been back to the playoffs since.
  • The first three champs all benefited from a BYE (2015, 2016, 2017).
  • Since 2018, the BYE week teams have a combined record of 0-4.
  • Kronner is the only manager with at least 4 playoffs since 2015 and no BYE weeks.
  • Timbo is the only team to not finish Top 6 a single time since this format began.
