The Playoff Picture Headed into Week 13…

With the near completion of Week 12, it seems like all the matches are pretty much decided barring something unforeseen. So, should the current projections hold, here’s what the standings are going to look like come Thursday;

  1. Red Bank Mallrats (8-4)
  2. Sc4_Skippers (8-4)
  3. The Quasars (7-5)
  4. The Tim Brady’s (7-5)
  5. QAnon (7-5)
  6. C Tan vs the World (6-6)
  7. BE A MAN HOGAN (6-6)
  8. SECOND DECK (6-6)
  9. TIMMO! (6-6)
  10. Nacho Team (5-7)
  11. Flying Dutchmen (5-7)
  12. Murphy Inn-ies (1-11)

So what does this mean for the playoffs?

Steve, Kyle, Kronner and Jones are in. Dave, Trigger and Jason are all out. That leaves Mark, Chris, John, Matt and Timmy vying for the last two spots. So what needs to happen for these teams to get in? I’ll go over some scenarios;

We’ll start with Yahoo projections. Now I know the Week 13 lineups aren’t set, but this is just a jumping-off point. Assuming, regardless of impending moves, that all the teams currently projected to win prevail, this is what we’d be looking at;

  1. Sc4_Skippers (9-4)
  2. Red Bank Mallrats (8-5)
  3. C Tan vs the World (7-6)
  4. The Quasars (7-6)
  5. The Tim Brady’s (7-6)
  6. SECOND DECK (7-6)
  7. QAnon (7-6)
  8. TIMMO! (7-6)
  9. BE A MAN HOGAN (6-7)
  10. Nacho Team (6-7)
  11. Flying Dutchmen (6-7)
  12. Murphy Inn-ies (2-11)

This scenario, based on point totals entering Week 13, sees the Skippers win the regular season, as they and Mallrats both get first-round BYES. Then we have six teams with 7 wins, and only four of them are going to get it. This is the most parody we’ve ever seen in this league. Tan’s running up of the scores in the early weeks pays off here as he jumps from the six-spot up to the third. Timmo and Kaiser, killed by low scores in Week 12 are out here unless they can drop some massive point totals in Week 13.

This would result in Chris playing Matt in the 3-6 matchup, and Steve hosting Kyle for the 4-5 game. But what if we went reverse? What if all six games result in upsets?

  1. Red Bank Mallrats (9-4)
  2. The Quasars (8-5)
  3. The Tim Brady’s (8-5)
  4. Sc4_Skippers (8-5)
  5. QAnon (8-5)
  6. BE A MAN HOGAN (7-6)
  7. TIMMO! (7-6)
  8. C Tan vs the World (6-7)
  9. SECOND DECK (6-7)
  10. Nacho Team (5-8)
  11. Flying Dutchmen (5-8)
  12. Murphy Inn-ies (1-12)

This scenario monkeys up all the works at the top. Here we see the Skippers plummet down to 4th, while The Quasars jump up to 2nd and get a BYE. Kyle hosts John in the 3-6 and Jones takes on Kaiser in the 4-5. Timmo, with the same record as John, sits on the outside in 7th place.

TIMMO!

So, how does Timmy get in and end a playoff drought dating back to 2014? Let’s see…

  1. Timbo needs to beat Matt. Obviously.
  2. He needs Kaiser to beat C Tan.
  3. He needs Dave to beat John Sanchez.

If those three games pan out, Tim can sneak in as the 6 seed, ending what I believe is the longest playoff absence in SCL history. What was the world even like last time Tim made the playoffs?

BE A MAN HOGAN

How does John get in?

  1. John needs to beat Dave. Obviously.
  2. He needs Kaiser to beat Tansuche.
  3. And finally, he needs either a WIN by Tim OR if Matt beats Tim, for SECOND DECK to score no more than 121 points higher than BE MAN MAN in Week 13.

C TAN vs THE WORLD

How does Tan get in? Chris still leads the league in scoring, despite being 1-6 in his last seven games, so that helps him here.

  1. Chris needs to beat Kaiser.

That’s it. Tan controls his own destiny thanks to slapping the league around with his huge dong for the first 5 weeks. If he loses though, he’ll be out because either Tim or Matt will get a Win or Tie this week.

SECOND DECK

How does Matt get in?

  1. Matt needs to beat or tie Timmo.
  2. He needs his brother to beat John OR he needs to outscore HOGAN by at least 122 points.

He didn’t get to draft his own team and Kenny G missed most of the year, but Matt brawled back…

QAnon

So, how does Mork get in?

  1. He beats his old nemesis, the Commish.

OR if he loses, he could still get in with some help;

  1. He would need Tim to beat Matt
  2. He would also need Dave to beat John Sanchez.

Mork is a game up on the other four teams, which is why he gets in with a win regardless of points. And why he can still get in even with a loss if Timmy and Davers help him out.

RECAP

  • The Mallrats and Skippers are playing for Regular Season Champ and First Round Byes.
  • Nacho Team, though out of the Playoff Race, still has a chance to play spoiler and shape the tournament.
  • TIMMO! vs SECOND DECK is basically a play-in game, though both teams need some help. Timmy has the hardest road to the Six Seed.
  • The reigning champ QAnon has the best chance of securing one of the last two spots, but could still get bumped.
  • Tan has the 2nd best odds of getting in thanks to his point total – all he needs is a win.
