2020 Schedule Preview

So Tan and I have completed work on this year’s schedule, and for the first time in a while – everyone will play everyone else at least once…

WEEK ONE – The Revenge Week

To kick off the season, we’ve picked some games with a theme, teams that should be looking for some payback.

  • Championship Rematch – This will likely become tradition, and kicking it off will be Kronner going up against the reigning bitch champ, Kaiser.
  • Biggest Blowouts – I wanted to do “Most points in a Loss” here, but that was McLeod vs. Kronner, and since The Mallrats are already busy in week one, we looked at some of the biggest blowouts from last season. This is going to give us Chris trying to avenge an 0-2 record against John last season, which included a 680 point loss in Week 11. Additionally, Stephen will be looking for some payback vs Jones, whom he lost to twice last season, with an ugly 2732-1655 beating by the Skippers in Week 2 of 2019.
  • The Matts – Matt Alley’s SECOND DECK started out last season with 5 straight wins before a rematch with Trigger during Week 6, a showdown that saw Alley lose his perfect season shots and from here out these two teams battled down the stretch for the division title, which would eventually go to Alley. In the end, both teams lost in the playoffs to the eventual champion, Qanon.
  • The Embarrassments – Neither Dave nor Kyle reached the postseason in 2019, but what Dave did do was put in two horrific efforts in the weeks that he played Kyle. Both games were winnable, but Nacho Team was only able to muster 1578 (Wk 3) and 1705 (Wk 12) points respectively. Now as we kick off 2020, we’ll look to see if Dave can redeem himself or if Kyle can put a decisive nail in the coffin of their first of their two 2020 regular-season meetings.
  • The Five-Year Dominance – Jason and his Murphy Inn-ies entered the league in 2015, and after five complete seasons, they have never once lost to Booty Master Timbo. Sure, they’ve only played three times so far (once in 2015, twice in 2017), but Undefeated is still Undefeated. This will be the first of 2 chances TIM! has for redemption, the second will come in Week 6 of this season.

Rivalry Weeks

This year we will see official rivalry weeks happening in Week 5 and Week 10. Here are the Rivalry Matchups for this season…

  • BE A MAN HOGAN: Steve and Kyle
  • C Tan vs the World: Jason and Kyle
  • Flying Dutchmen: Jones and Dave
  • Murphy Inn-ies: Chris and Jones
  • Nacho Team: Matt and Trigger
  • QAnon: Kronner and Matt
  • Red Bank Mallrats: Kaiser and McLeod
  • Sc4_Skippers: Jason and Trigger
  • SECOND DECK: Kaiser and Dave
  • The Quasars: Tim and John
  • The Tim Brady’s: John and Chris
  • TIM!: Kronner and Steve

I understand some of these have less vitriol than others, but as we move forward, I’ll try to keep track of the most infuriating trash talk and blowouts for next year’s matchups. Some of these are pretty obvious, the Brother matchups have always been low hanging fruit – but Jones vs Jason – after the Skippers immortalized themselves as villains in the 2015 draft is an obvious one. Kaiser’s long time nemesis Tansuche has been swapped out for Matt, after their playoff matchup a few years back that nabbed Kaiser a Bronze Trophy. Kronner vs. McLeod is one of the oldest in the league, stemming from the early 2000s when several years worth of mediocre McLeod teams, all QB’d by Peyton Manning, annually committed anal-assault on Kronner’s teams. And while the Trigger vs. Jones rivalry is one of the originals, it really heated up last season once Jon was going for Diamond Status, and then got immediately pistol-whipped by the Dutchmen.

We haven’t figured out all the year-end payouts yet, but it’s likely that Rivalry Records could come into play. And it looks like the new buy-in will be $100.
