Changes for the 2020 Season – Results of Last Night’s Summit

So last night at House Jones, the summit for the 2020 season was held – with sparse participation. All matters that were put to the poll back in December were discussed, with poll results factored in. We also set a Draft Date…

Wednesday, September 2nd @ 9 PM

Let’s starts with the initiatives that did NOT pass.

  • Waiver Buys: This would have basically worked somewhat like a salary cap for waiver pickups.
  • QB Bonuses: Bringing this back was thought to be too unbalanced.
  • Kick Return Yards: With the current NFL kick return structure, this is no longer relevant enough to change.
  • Flex Spot: There was some decision around different option here, but ultimately it was decided against.

As for what IS changing…

The Draft

It was determined that moving forward we will try out an auction-style draft, but given a lack of time for this season, we will implement it in 2021. So for this year, to spice things up – despite both Tim and Kronner liking their current draft spots, we will randomize the draft order through a lottery.

As for this year, and how the lottery will be determined, we have a couple options – please vote for the one you want…

12th Place Penalty

We have approved some sort of consequence for finishing last – which has yet to be determined. We are accepting suggestions on the matter.

Consolation Bracket

In an attempt to add a little bit more incentive to the Consolation Bracket, the winner will receive 1 Championship Point (same as winning Bronze) in our all-time standings. This change will take place now, but will not be retroactive.

Divisions

As discussed before, at length, the divisions have never proven the be the real asset we had hoped, and they affect our ability to properly balance schedules. So, THEY GONE.

New Buy-In Pricing

We were thinking either bumping it to $75 or $100. This would mean higher payouts at every position, and a little set aside for shipping/updating/repairing the trophy. Exact amounts will be determined once we agree on a number.

Trade Decisions

This has been a point of contention for some years now, and despite how spiteful we all are, there hasn’t actually been a trade vetoed since 2011. Furthermore, the wait times signify little than an annoyance, and they prevent Sunday trades. So we will be doing away the Veto and Wait Times altogether and just trust everyone to not be a dumbass when accepting a trade proposal. This should open things up to more trades and make the league more interesting.

IR Spots

We will be adding 2 IR spots to each team with all the uncertainty surrounding COVID and what not.
