Playoff Semi-Finals Preview (Super Late)

Enter the 2nd Round. Where once there were six, now remain four.

Following last weekend, where we saw BE A MAN HOGAN and Flying Dutchmen both lose in upsets, the Semi-Final matchups will feature a couple of rematches from recent years…

CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET

Sc4_Skippers (1) vs. Redbank Mallrats (5)

Playoff History: Jon leads all-time Playoff Series 2-0 (2013, 2018)
Last Matchup: 2018 Quarter Finals

Kind of odd to see how seldom some of us meet up in the playoffs. Kronner and Jones have both been in the league since 2001, and have a combined five championships between them – however, prior to last year, the only postseason matchup they’d ever had was a Bronze Game back in 2013.

Now two years in a row, they’ve meet – last year in the Quarters on the way to Gold for Jones, and this year in the Semi – and with only MNF left, the game is still totally up in the air.

The Skippers come into the playoffs the #1 overall seed, and fresh of a Quarterfinal BYE. After starting 8-1 (their lone loss in Week 4 to QAnon), the Skips hit a rough patch over their last four games, averaging just 1923 ppg over that stretch to finish the season 9-4. That was still good enough to lock up the West Philly Division.

The Mallrats, fresh off a Quarterfinal upset victory over BE A MAN HOGAN, came into the playoffs as the #5 seed following an 8-5 finish. Their season took a different trajectory from that of the Skippers. The Mallrats started out 3-5 before getting hot late.

So as we entered this weekend, the Skippers lost 3 of their last 4, while the Mallrats come in on a six-game win streak. Heading into MNF, Kronner only has one player left – Darius Leonard. So he will have to pray that Leonard and a 400-point lead can outlast Zach Pascal, Justin Houston, and future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. Should that lead not be enough, Jones will advance to the finals for a chance at not only his fourth Championship, but also an opportunity to become the first-ever Back-to-Back winner.

SECOND DECK (2) vs. QAnon (6)

Playoff History: Kaiser leads all-time Playoff Series 1-0 (2016)
Last Matchup: 2019 – Week 9: Kaiser wins 2072 – 1948

Another one we had to wait a while for. These two Managers have met in the postseason only once before – and it took 13 years before it happened. #5 Kaiser knocked out #4 Matt in the Quarterfinal before eventually taking the Bronze that year.

In their only other meeting in 2019, Kaiser played Giant Slayer again and dispatched Matt’s 7-1 team. This would begin the slide that led to SECOND DECK’s 2-3 finish, though they also were able to hang onto their division and take advantage of a first-round BYE. QAnon also finished out 2-3, and entered the postseason as the 6 seed, before knocking off the Flying Dutchman last week.

Entering MNF each team has one defender left, but Matt will need some help from above to overcome the hole he’s currently in. Can the Colts’ Anthony Walker outscore the Saints’ Demario Davis by more than 400 points? Crazy things happen on MNF…

As for this year’s CONSOLATION BRACKET…

The Quasars eliminated Murphy for a chance to play C Tan vs. The World. The Quasars enter MNF with a 132 point lead, and out of players. C Tan has his DL – Cam Jordan – so this is really a coin toss.

As or TIM! and Nacho Team, who met in the Consolation for the third consecutive year, and the fifth time overall. This year the contest went to Nacho Team, snapping Timmy’s 3-game consolation win streak in the series. Nacho will now face off against the Tim Brady’s in a game where (even with each them has a player left tonight) no one seems to want to win. This is Kyle’s first Consolation game ever, while Dave is an experienced vet – playing in his 12th.
